COMEDY IN A VAN CANCELLATION POLICY
I like to think I’ve always been fair with acts when having to pull gigs on them but this began to look very much like a one way street. After getting 11 cancellations in a week I brought in a new cancellation policy. There does seem to have been some confusion about how this works so, I have set it all out below, complete with FAQ’s.  Feel free to let me know if anything isn’t as clear as it could be.

What happens when I pull a gig on you?
Although very rare, I do occasionally cancel gigs.  If this is within 28 days of performance then I pay the following cancellation rates;

28 days 25% of fee
14 days 50% of fee
24 hours 100% of fee

What happens when a venue I book pulls on you?
These cancellation fees also apply to any gigs I book. If there is any problem getting paid from the venue and you have taken every reasonable effort to get paid I will chase it up on your behalf. If this doesn’t work I will pay you.

The only exceptions to these would be what is termed a force majeure (e.g. lock down, dead Queen, venue hit by lightning etc).

Corporate bookings will have to be dealt with on a case by case basis.

What happens when you pull a gig on me?
Every act that I book starts with five points. Think of these as ‘lives’. If you cancel a gig, for whatever reason, you lose a point. If you get down to two points you lose the right to cancellation fees. If you get down to zero lives then I take you off the list but, hopefully, we can still be friends.

Getting points back
If you fill a short notice cancellation (less than seven days) you gain a point.  If I need to move you to another date (again, very rare) you gain a point.

FAQ’s

If I pull a double does that count as two lives? No

If I pull two dates does that count as two lives? Yes

If the gig isn’t listed and on sale do I lose a life? No

What if it was my agent’s fault?  If they confirm it was down to them then they lose the life

What if me and my agent can’t agree on whose fault it was? Then you both lose a life

Does this system apply to middle spots and open spots? No

Since this system has been in place (February 2022) it has drastically reduced my cancellations.  Sadly, I have lost two  acts and one agency to it so please keep your cancellations down to absolute emergencies, big bucks corporates and help me out when I get dropped in it.
