After it’s multi-million pound refurb, comedy returned to the Lion & Swan, Congleton in February 2022. Acts subject to change. Proper sweary, swearing. swearing. Fully seated. 18+ We want all our guests to have a great night so please respect those around you by turning off your phone and not talking whilst the show is in progress. Sorry, but we can only refund or reallocate if the show is cancelled. Thanks
Steve Gribbin first took to the stage at the tender age of 13. He was cruelly beaten into third place by a ventriloquist and a Donny Osmond impersonator. You can’t keep a good man down though and Steve’s love of making people laugh rivals that of his affections for Liverpool FC and Elvis Costello.
By his late teens, Steve was fifty per cent of comedy duo Skint Video just as something called ‘alternative comedy’ was beginning to infuriate the tabloids.. The next few years became a blur of festivals, student unions, miners benefits, appearances at Britain’s first dedicated comedy clubs and even on the telly! Proper telly. When it had four channels. Saturday Night Live, The Mary Whitehouse Experience and even their own Radio One show.
All good things come to an end and Skint Video was no different. Steve got custody of the guitar and metamorphosised into the comedy circuit’s most prolific and productive performer.
Steve puts absolutely everything he has got into every single gig he does. Sweat drips as he hammers out short, sharp satirical songs that strike chords throughout the room. If it’s in the news, he’s written something rapturously funny about it, slaughtering sacred cows with deft musicianship and crowd slaying wit.
No one can count themselves as a true comedy fan until they have seen Steve Gribbin. A bulletproof booking, whether it’s Glastonbury or The Comedy Store, Steve will more than do the job and we are proud to call ourselves fans.
‘A highly refreshing and original comic with a gift for sharp observations and up-to-the-minute political asides. With more energy than a friendly Tasmanian devil, this animated comedian tells jokes, plays the guitar and sings lyrics. Hilarious!‘ The Scotsman
‘Satirical songs are hard to pull off successfully, but if anyone can do it, Steve Gribbin can. In fact, he pulls it off with real aplomb.‘ The Independent
Adam Rowe is now known to millions through the Have A Word podcast he co-hosts with Dan Nightingale. The #LidArmy phenomeno (Live At The Apollo, Have A Word podcast, Stand Up Sketch Show etc)
His natural, laid back persona combined with brutally honest, opinionated stand-up and his phenomenal ad-libbing ability make each of his performances unique, gloriously unpredictable and, most importantly, always hilarious.
“Ridiculously good” ★★★★★ Herald “Roars of laughter” Telegraph “A masterclass” ★★★★★ Entertainment Focus
Howard Anstock takes the middle spot and Mick Ferry comperes.
Mick Ferry is, quite simply, the best MC working in the UK today. Whether he’s running with a scatterbrained idea, an audience suggestion or dipping into his extensive mental files of absolute, top drawer gags and routines, the end result is a barrage of laughter from a very happy audience and that is what we are all about.
“See him or regret it” John Bishop
