OFF THE RAILS COMEDY CLUB,
Off The Rails Comedy Club, Saddleworth
Held at The Royal George, Greenfield on the last Sunday of every month with additional touring and fundraising shows throughout the year. The George is a large country pub set in the stunning Saddleworth countryside.
The very first Off The Rails comedy night was held on a Sunday in May 2001 at the upstairs room at The Railway, Greenfield. The plan was for eager comedy fans, from Manchester to Huddersfield, to descend on the venue which faces Greenfield rail station. On the opening night we discovered the trains stopped at 3pm so, what better name than Off The Rails?
Notable appearances in the first year included Justin Moorhouse (who is still an Off The Rails regular), Ian Cognito, Alan Carr, Jim Jefferies, Gary Delaney and John Bishop. In addition to seasoned pros we always include a newer act on each show and Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall and Paul Smith were all happy to oblige!
January 2008 saw us up sticks and move to the bigger room at The Royal George, Greenfield where we have been ever since. The room is well loved by comedians and Regarded as being amongst the best in the UK. We still haven’t won a single award though!
The Royal George offers guests the opportunity to dine downstairs before the show, ample free parking and the full range of JW Lees’ cask ales, lagers and associated boozy products.
